In year 7 drama, students focus is upon group work. Student work collaboratively each lesson to develop their creativity through devised drama. A variety of themes are explored through six week studies of work including Harry Potter and the world of Magic, Evacuees and genres such as Soap Operas. Students explore the fundamental techniques used in drama and are guided whilst they begin to use these independently. Students are assessed three times throughout the year through performance and grades are levels are awarded based on a student?s individual performance.
Throughout the year students will work on topics which will develop their creating and performing skills. They will be involved in individual, pair and group work and will be expected to contribute to lessons not only through their classwork but also through their effort and behaviour. Pupils are expected to perform during lessons and are encouraged to evaluate work using dramatic technology.

The skills learnt in each topic are important for any pupil choosing GCSE Drama, and also help to develop key social skills.
Term 1: Development of existing Drama skills, including Freeze Frame, Still Image, Split Focus, Thought Tracking, Narration, Group Performance.
Term 2: Producing improvisations about real-life challenges and situations.
Theatre Skills: Developing design/direction and performance skills related to a set text e.g. ?Romeo and Juliet?. Spontaneous Improvisation, Conscience Alley, Direct Address, Cross-cutting, Set/Light/Sound Design, Costume Design, Directing, Group and Individual Performances.
Term 3: Includes issue based scripts e.g. Theatre-in-Education. Preparation for Year 10 Performing Arts including movement classes. Improvisation/Devising, Script Work, Physical Theatre, Characterisation.
